Lac Ste MarieOverviewTwo-day race: Saturday, August 26 - Sunday, August 27, 2006 We've moved our Eastern Canada classic to late August. The weekend includes a two-day race and a one-day race. This is truly an amazing backdrop for your adventure racing experience. The region has the best of both worlds: all the amenities of a spectacular city right next door to one of Canada's foremost outdoor playgrounds. The town of Lac Sainte-Marie is on Quebec's southwestern edge, one-hour's drive from Ottawa, Canada's capital and site of the nearest international airport. Lac Sainte-Marie is nestled in the heart of the Gatineau Region, where the Gatineau River flows south to meet the Ottawa River. The valley is rich in history and the vibrant culture of Irish and French settlements. Lac Sainte-Marie is a quaint, small town right on the lake with Mont Ste-Marie Ski Resort in the background. This beautiful rural area is only a 50-minute scenic drive north of Ottawa. As soon as you cross the Ottawa River north of the city, you're in the Gatineau Valley. Take Highway 5 north to Wakefield where it turns into route 105. Continue north to the turn off to the Municipalite de Lac Sainte-Marie. If arriving by plane, Ottawa International Airport will be your destination. You should arrive in Ottawa before the Friday afternoon prior to the race. Wherever you're coming from or going to, stay until Monday and take it easy. You'll be fatigued and will want to share your race story with other competitors. |
