Objective & Stages

This race is a one-day or two-day stage race. Both days end at Mont Ste. Marie. What this means is that all logistics for teams and their support people are simple. You won't need to continuously set up and tear down your camp. Finishing at the same place each day adds fun for all involved. Racers can expect to be on the course between six and 10 hours a day.

Paddling is all flatwater - no whitewater. Solo athletes are permitted to use a canoe, kayak or any other floatworthy, people-powered vessel without oarlocks. Rentals are available at local outfitters. The trekking route is marked, but you'll need to perform simple navigation as you scramble, bushwhack, run, crawl, slip and slide. Be ready to get wet and muddy. You will be treated to fantastic local riding on rolling dirt roads and limited single-track trails. It's not technical, but is rolling and smooth with lots of variance. Finally, expect the unexpected. We're planning some surprise events.

Navigation & Self-Sufficient

Race maps will be distributed at registration. Advanced map-reading skills are not necessary. Trails will be amply marked. You'll have to work hard at getting lost. This is a self-sufficient race. You must carry your own food, clothing and footwear during the race. First aid stations will be marked, but there will be no water stations.
